Our Passion for Solutions started 47 years ago. From humble beginnings as a start-up selling copper wire, Magnet has grown to become one of the leaders in the industrial sector. Here's a look at the milestones we reached over the years… 

1972:
Magnet opens its doors 
1980:
Magnet begins to sell the Telemecanique product range (known today as Schneider Electric) 
1983 :
Magnet purchases a tools company and starts an abrasive division
Magnet acquires a 3M distributorship
1986:
Brian Howarth (current Managing Director) joins the company 
1988:
Melanie Smyth (nee Howarth) joins Magnet as Human Resources Director 
1996:
Magnet offices move to 48 Hannah Road, Congella, Durban 
2000:
Magnet acquires the a-eberle distributorship
2002:
Magnet adds Lighting Projects to its portfolio
Magnet Richards Bay opens its door
2004:
Narasha Ramlutchman (current Financial Director) acquires shares and joins the board of Directors 
A training division, offering seminars to industry, is opened in KZN 
2005:
Magnet engages with Eskom and completes 1st DSM energy efficient project
2011:
Magnet acquires its single largest project to date, an Eskom performance contract to the value of R 140 million
2013:
Magnet Pietermaritzburg opens its doors
2014:
Magnet Electrical Johannesburg is established
Magnet Group moves to their new head office premises in Riverhorse Valley, Durban
Magnet has access to the new on-site lighting laboratory to test and evaluate product performance 
2015:
Magnet acquires distributorship for MARS LED Lighting System, developed in-house for customers 
2016:
Magnet Johannesburg opens a Lighting Division
2017:
Nicole Snyders (nee Howarth) joins Magnet Group as Strategy and Communications Director
