ENERGY SAVING TIPS
There is a golden rule that applies to saving electricity in the home:
If you’re not using it, switch it off.
Use the cold water tap whenever you can; the hot water tap uses energy by activating the geyser
Ensure filters in pools, air conditioners and dishwashers are serviced regularly to improve their efficiency
Turn the geyser thermostat down to 60°C
Use motion sensor lamps for security lighting instead of leaving a light burning all night
Close doors and windows to keep a room warm and use electric blankets instead of heaters
Fix any leaking taps – a slow leaking tap wastes 18 litres a day
Insulating your ceiling makes your home up to 10°C cooler in summer and 5°C warmer in winter. Un-insulated homes lose 40% of heat through the roof
